Which interview method is the most suitable for my company?
Conducting interviews are a crucial point in the recruitment process as it determines if the right talent is short listed from all candidates and therefore selecting a suitable interview strategy based on the organization and the relevant applicant is very important.
Following are few of the interview methods that are currently being used by HR professionals all over the world.
- Traditional Interview - Traditional interviewing can be structured, semi structured or unstructured based on the organization's preferences and are used to assess the skills and experience of potential candidates (Zojceska, 2019). Use of this method is dying down due to its inability to evaluate soft skills of an individual. However, some companies still rely on this method in the 1st phase of the recruitment process.
- Job Simulation : Job simulation is where the candidate is asked to carry out a task that aligns with the job role he has applied to. This will allow the employer to assess how he utilizes skills and different thinking strategies to resolve/complete the task. This is considered as an innovative interviewing method among many organizations due to its ability to provide a better overview about the applicant in comparidon to the traditional interview method.
- Casual Interview : This is where the candidate is interviewed in an informal setting, at a cafe or a restaurant that allows the assessor to understand his/her social skills and communication patterns. Although this may not sound practical for organizations who conducts frequent recruitments, I believe this method will put the candidate in a more comfortable environment allowing them to be free-minded when answering questions.
- Virtual Interview (AR & VR) : Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are the most recently introduced interview methods which are mainly used mong tech based organizations (Zojceska, 2019). AR & VR are becoming famous and effective methods in the current recruitment era. Following is an example where Jaguar Land Rover has created a VR app to test candidate skills.

The ability to test out both hard and soft skills of a candidate, allowing the applicant to also see around the office space, have a clear understanding of the work environment and about his/her role, all this in one go? Does this not sound like the future of recruitment?
Taking all the above methods into consideration, it is important to select the most suitable interviewing methods that accommodates the requirement of the organization. In some scenarios, it is best to apply different methods based on the personality, skills and expertise of the applicant which lies in the hands of HR professionals.

It is interesting to know these methods. Most of these interview platforms help employers select the most suitable person that they are expect to find a job with. These platforms will help to evaluate their performance so that you can get an idea of their strengths and weaknesses.
ReplyDeleteMy view on casual interviews are that this works based on the job you're hiring for. Some professionals prefer having informal interviews for top level management candidates, some instances it would be a casual setting for maybe job seekers in the advertising industry or entertainment industry.
